Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since 1990, operating the entire time out of Plano Texas.
What is your primary product or service?
We support our clients in meeting product substance content regulations such as required by REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals, ELV (IMDS) and many other global legislations by providing regulatory training, compliance process implementation, and data collection services. We have an international client base.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I left the corporate world and started the firm in 1990 so I could control my schedule and be able to actively raise my three children. After a "mishap" with our house in 2000, when a gas pipe broke and the house exploded, I learned from the firemen on the scene about the toxic substances in building products. Over the next several years, my company's focus shifted to support for identifying substance content in materials used in manufacturing, in a way that could help them make safer products while boosting profitability. I have been able to leverage my BSE in Engineering as well as my MBA to see unique opportunities for my clients.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
My company focuses on helping our clients see the big picture and direction of regulatory compliance, so we can integrate the compliance process in a way that provides what we call a "Compliance Value Proposition", making it a key part of increasing sales and profitability, instead of the typical approach of spending money to demonstrate compliance as just another cost of business being forced on us by government.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
RSJ Technical has been operating using virtual officing since 1990. We have key persons operating out of Texas, Colorado, Michigan and Wisconsin. We do not have the traditional brick and motor so we can keep our costs low and provide a better value for our clients.

I, Michael Wurzman, am the founder and owner of the company
What are your hours of operation?
We adjust our hours to meet the needs of clients, although we typically are available 8-5 CST by phone without a prior appointment.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
After working with RSJ, we were able to implement programs and become self sufficient, reducing our overall costs of compliance while getting benefits from making compliance part our routine business operations.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"If it is worth doing, it is worth doing it right."
